YOU'VE GOT YOGMAEL!!

AG'S "THINGS TO DO WHILE BORED"

1. Plan a new YM contest. (See first post.)

2. Watch the Bulls kick the Jazz's asses.

3. Break your George Michael Unathorized Edition
interview CD, and damn near have a nervous break-
down. Then remember you have a couple hundred
friends who have the CD who can copy it for you.
Who can help me out? Will pay expenses.

4. Delete the entire European YM Roster, slap yourself
very firmly in the forehead, rejoice that your rings are on
the dresser and thus you have no flesh wounds. (Fear
not, I got the list back with some fancy cut and paste.)

AND AWAY WE GO...

NEW CONTEST!!!

OK, so everyone is doing something special for George's
34th, and that's cool, but that's not what YM is honouring
this month...Not to begrudge George's getting older, but
I feel the urge to dwell on his youth, because, well, I can,
and because the prize that has been donated is Wham!ly
in nature.

So here's the deal camera crew: June 28th is the 11th
anniversary of Wham!'s official split, and we all know
they went out with a bang called the Final. Nancy has
generously offered to donate a video copy and an audio
copy (fan recorded) to the lucky winners of this contest.
First prize is the video, second is the audio. What do
I have to do to win you are asking. I was perusing the
BananaMail recently, and I noticed discussion of who
people would want to see on a tribute album. And I
thought to myself "Amanda" -- that's what I call myself
-- "This would make a great YM contest!"

All you have to do, is send me a 11 song track listing
of WHAM! only songs -- using solo material would
offend Andrew, and you are not allowed to do that
-- who you think should cover them, and in 25 words
or less, WHY. YM's Andrew (Alicia) and I will judge
based on a number of factors, especially originality.
Enter only once and since this won't be easy, you
have a week, meaning submit your answers by or
on June 11th. Good luck!

Amanda

Hi Amanda,
I couldn't resist adding my contribution to this idea of
Yogmael being "kosher".....well, if the man himself
said it, it must be true!! In it's strictest sense, "kosher"
means "fit" or "permitted" for Jewish use, but George
was using the term in it's widely accepted sense of
"OK" or "the right/real thing". A small amount of
Jewish blood does indeed flow in George's veins
(courtesy of his maternal grandfather) so let's just
accept that he knows the genuine article (i.e.
YOGMAEL) when he sees it!!! And how do I know all
this?? Believe me--I'm a JEWISH MOTHER!!!!!

Love, Beverley.

Amanda,

Haven't spoken for a while, well as usual I have been
very busy and also didn't want to tell you that I still
need some time to update the archives.

Well, that is correct, the Archives are now updated till
issue # 167 (I hope that is close enough for now !!)

Stats on the archives are as follows :

The main Archive page has been hit 4333 times !!
The most read YM issue is # 40 (505) followed by
# 1 (485) and # 18 (337). Issues 2, 3, 47, 74A, 74B,
80, 81, 114, 116 are all above the 200 mark.I have
also added your YOGAHOLISM paper to the top of
the page and I expect a lot of hits on this one soon.

(My thanks of course for absolutely everything! AG)

I have also updated the links on my WEB page
making them more comprehensive, I still need to
have a rating to all those sites, there are so many
of them these days !!

(I try to hit a new one now and then, but there is
always a new one popping up it seems! MAJOR
shout out to the newest one YOGfanclub. You
all did a great job Melanie! AG)

For those in Oz, Star People 97' will be released
on the 16th of June, the single will include live
versions of Everything She Wants and Star People
from the Unplugged Concert. A second CD "The
remixes" will be released in July. Anyone interested
in getting a copy of this Australian release, please
email me on alhatu-at-ozemail.com.au for details.

Finally, in celebration of George Michael's 34th
birthday, I am running a competition on my WEB
site where I am giving away a copy of George
Michael - The Unauthorised Edition. All you have
to do is be the first to correctly identify the six GM
songs in the weekly clip for the next 3 weeks (a
new clip will appear every Sunday night Oz time -
Sunday morning North American time). Every week
you can only have one shot at the clip and at the
end of the 3 weeks, the person who has the highest
number of correctly identified songs wins the CD.
More info will be available soon on my WEB page

under The Competition Page.

Cheers

Tim

Well, I'm eagerly awaiting my copy of Waltz.... from Nancy,
it should be here in a week or so. Anyway, it just occurred
to me that the video might, should be aired on UK's MTV.
So, has anyone seen it on there yet? What about the
BBC? If so, or if anyone can let me know in advance when
it might be on, I'd really appreciate it. (I don't get a listing
of shows) Thanks!!!

I THINK GM "OLDER" IS A GREAT SUCCESS. THERE
ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO CHOOSE NOT TO
EVEN LISTEN TO THIS MASTERPIECE! OK I'M BEING
A LITTLE BIASED BECAUSE OF CRITIC SLANDERING
HERE IN AUSTRALIA. WHO DO CRITICS THINK THEY
ARE? IF ANY OF THE CRITICS HAD THE AMOUNT OF
TALENT GM HAS THEN THEY CAN TALK. BUT THEY
DON'T! TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO SLANDER GM FOR
BEING A SPOILT BRAT FOR FIGHTING SONY: DON'T
COMMENT UNTIL YOU KNOW THE WHOLE STORY!
GM SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SELL HIS SOUL TO RECORD
COMPANIES OR THE PUBLIC FOR DECIDING TO BE IN
THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.

Jonathan,

Oh my goodness!!! How cool was that! I am kissing your
shoes as this is written. Thank you for sharing your most
incredible moment (ok, five minutes) with us. I am so
jealous that I've just about invented a new shade of green
(I'll call it Georgely Green!).

My stomach was rumbling at the excitement you must
have felt speaking with George on the phone. How
wonderful for you.

Thanks again and congratulations on your upcoming
nuptuals.

Your friend and George Fan,
Debbie

Hello!
I live in Australia and we hardly ever hear any news
on George, which is really upsetting. The MTV Unplugged
thingy was only on cable, and I don't have cable therefore
I was greatly disappointed. Its OK though, because I'll
manage to get a copy off someone with cable.
Australia is so far behind, that Star Peopls is being
released next Monday, the 9th of June. Oh well, at least
we'll get it. (Guess who'll be the first one in the music
store on Monday morning!!!)
So I apologise if I can't give you much information, but I
will do my best!
I just heard about George's awards. CONGRATULATIONS
GEORGE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I have to go now, so I'll catch up soon. BYE-BYE!
From Stephanie.

P.S My first name is Maria, but I don't like it much so I
tend to use my middle name, Stephanie quite often. Call
me what you like.

(Always a dangerous thing to say. Having a number of
incarnations of my name, Gardonyi, AG, Amanda, and
even Mandy -- close friends and family only -- these days
I'm pretty casual "Anything but asshole will be fine." AG)

PPS Isn't it so comforting to know that George is
reading Yogmael?! (Did I spell that correctly?)

(Comforting? Yeah, I guess it is. And yes, you spelt it
correctly, we're the one with the AE. Would those of
you in the chat room "that night" drop me a line please?
AG)

After reading the yogmael with Jonathan's phone
conversation I got to thinking about LWPII. I think he
could easily make the greatest hits Volume II. Just
call it "Listen Without Prejudice Vol. II - The Greatest
Hits" or something of that nature.

Or maybe after a couple more albums he could release
a box set called "LWP Volume II - The Complete
Recordings". I think a box set with all the b-sides and
rarities in one collection would be great idea.

Also, does anyone know if George actually performed
at the World Music Awards or was he just up for an
award. Maybe he presented one. I guess I'll find out
after I tape it on ABC (I'm in the U.S.).

(As you likely now know, we were conned into believing
he was there. AG)

Hi, everyone. There's an article about the Ivor Novello
Awards in this week's DotMusic. I'm including just the
parts about George.

Melanie

NOVELLO AWARDS CROWN SPICE GIRLS' YEAR
George Michael and Spice Girls were the biggest winners
at last week's Ivor Novello Awards, picking up two prizes
each and dominating media coverage of the event.

Michael was named songwriter of the year for a third time
and won the PRS award for most-performed work for
FastLove. Queen's Brian May, who presented Michael
with the songwriter award, said, "He's a phenomenon.
He won this award first 13 years ago as a new artist and
he's now a lot older and even more fabulous. It is
testament to the amazing journey he's made from multi-
talented teen idol to multi-talented megastar."

I know it's been said a lot, but great job Amanda. And if
Mr. Michael himself is reading this, all I can say is thank
you for your music. It must be an unbelievable feeling to
have your ideas and inspirations transformed into music
which in turn affects so many of us positively. I have felt
heartache recently and some of your songs have never
meant so much to me as they have now.

To all Yoggers out there, I quietly read your mail every
issue and smile. Thanx for all the great stories. However,
I think that the man deserves his privacy so we should
aim to discuss his music and achievements, and not to
pry into his small, but i'm sure cherished amount of
privacy. If we all cared about the man as much as I think
we do, our respect for his privacy and celebration of his
achievements are the greatest gifts a fan could ever give.

I finally thought I should tell ya that Canada loves GM as
well, and if George or anyone of you come 2 Vancouver,
give me a shout.

Brokenhearted and with 3 GM CD's in my 5-disc cd
Player since time immemorial,
sincerely,
Ray (rkhan-at-concentric.net)

And 4 my baby out there somewhere,

... but remember this,
Every other kiss,
That you ever give
Long as we both live,
When you need the hand of another man,
One you really can surrender with,
I will wait for you,
Like I always do,
There's something there,
That can't compare with any other.

Thanx GM, with deep respect and admiration, Ray.

Hello Amanda !!
Just in case nobody else noticed this recently...the Dot
music review of Waltz Away Dreaming. As usual, the
press try to make it sound like something not to get to
excited about...

10 WALTZ AWAY DREAMING (Toby Bourke featuring
George Michael)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ho ho, how cynical is it possible to be here? George
Michael has followed the path of many major stars and
set up his own record label, Aegean records. The first
signing to the label was new discovery Toby Bourke and
in turn he has the honour of becoming its first act to
release a single. 'Waltz Away Dreaming' isn't a bad
single by half and to enter the Top 10 in your first week
on the charts is a very good way to kick start a career.
The cynical amongst us will question the rather
generous way the label boss has lent his talents to the
single, turning Toby Bourke's first hit into a duet. The
question must therefore be how much the George
Michael influence has affected the sales of this track,
especially as if you ignore the fact that there are two
very similar voices perfoming the song it is to all intents
and purposes a George Michael track. In his defence,
Toby Bourke has at least done better than Deon Estus
did in 1989. Bass player on the 'Faith' tour, he enlisted
George's help on his single 'Heaven Help' and found
himself further down the mix than his 'backing singer'.
Although a sizeable American hit, the track stalled at
Number 41 over here.
...or should I say, "continuously make life way to dificult
for 'our boy'? Can't he do anything right?...it never seems
like it!!!
(I guess not. All the greats have had to endure mockery.
AG)
Bye dear,
Jim
Hi this is Susan from Australia who is a dedicated fan of
GM. The US think they have trouble finding GM's
exceptional music but believe me the land Down Under
is fifty times worse. News regarding GM is basically
non-existant and his most recent music does not enter
the Australian shores until at least five months later. And
that is if were very lucky.
If GM is reading this, in Australia you have one of the
largest support groups of your music. I mean all of the
singles that you have released from 'Older' shot straight
to number one. If thats not an incentive to tour to Australia
I dont know what is. I'll even bet you that you yourself will
be overwhelmed by Australia's response if you decide to
grace us mere mortals with your prescence.
Your devoted No.1 Australian fan, Susan.
